Database and upgrades

Recommended Posts

Software upgrades are coming this summer.  That sounds like a good thing, right?  Well, it is. We are having to upgrade our information databases to handle the expected increase in content. In the coming weeks we will move our existing data into the new databases and then we ill be able to bring exciting new content to the site.

Yes, exciting new content. We are going to bring our library, photos, and postcards to the website.  With over 4000 books in our library we will provide the title, table of contents, and availability for some helpful lookups if you feel your relative might have information included within the book we have.

Another fun thing is our postcard collection.  We have amassed a sizable grouping of postcards, most have been used, which is why we get them.  You see, we are going to place them on the site for members to search.  We hope someone will find a long forgotten heirloom from a family member.  We think it would be fantastic to get the postcard back to a family member that would appreciate having it.

We also are considering some of our private antique photo collections and additional items such as maps, store ledgers, etc.. We just have to determine the value of putting them on line.

One last thing.... All of these items will be view able to MEMBERS only.  While the site currently costs nothing to use, and we don't see changing that at any time in the future, we think this is a nice member benefit. Hope you will check back to see how we progress.

      The Spring Slowdown

I think it is a common theme really.  Each year as spring opens and the weather allows a release to the outdoors, the website will see a slowing in information.  That is ok, we really love our gardens as well.  I am also a huge fan of grilling foods.  I am not sure any of that will change in years to come either.   We have also taken a grand step in our field research and spent a week primarily in New Jersey with a few stops in Pennsylvania. It was a grand discovery, and yet, it was overwhelming as well. I have yet to go through all of the information that we uncovered.  And again, we found more holes that need attention.  I jokingly tell my bride that I am "DONE" now that I have linked my American lineage to the initial immigrant from Germany.  It is just a joke, there is always more to do. Thankfully so!   In the coming weeks things will settle and we will once again make some time to get more of our information on line.  Expect a wealth of data surrounding the early Tinsmans in America, maybe in Germany as well.  I will see what I can do.  I will also get more linked information posted for other areas.  Finding so many local resources while we traveled has proven that courthouses and societies are very important places to visit, and even make new friends.   I hope you will find something worth your visit, maybe even something Grand!!!!!
