    Abstract: Lee County

Once there were thirty towns located in the county. They were places with such intriguing names as Ambrosia, Mooar, Camackville, Tuscarora, Belfast, Monterey, Nashville, String Prairie, Camargo, Jollyville, La Crew, Warren, Dover, Jeffersonville, White Lane, Viele, and Hinsdale. A drawing or two in old history books is all that remains of these towns. Other small communities have either followed or shrunk so much that they disappeared from all but large scale maps. They are recognizable now as a cluster of dwellings and cling to their historic name for ease of identification. Such places as Summitville, Croton, Sandusky, New Boston, Argyle, Mt. Hamill, Vincennes, South Augusta, and Sawyer. http://www.leecounty.org/history.htm View full record
  7. The Lee County Iowa Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history of Lee County, Iowa. Samuel Freeman Miller was born in 1816 in Kentucky, and grew up on a farm. He earned a medical degree from Transylvania University in 1838 and practiced medicine for ten years. During that time he taught himself law, was admitted to the Kentucky bar in 1847, abandoning his medical practice. Miller became more interested in politics after he became an attorney. As member of the Whig Party, Miller was opposed to slavery, a position that caused him difficulty because of the increase of pro-slavery sentiments in Kentucky. http://www.lcihs.org/ Lee County Iowa Historical Society 318 N 5th Street P.O. 10. The Southwest Florida Historical Society (SWFLHS) was established in 1960 by a group of citizens to “preserve the history of our area”. In 1983 the SWFLHS received as a gift a building that was destined to be demolished by the City for a new parking lot. Harper Brothers Construction donated the building and Flint and Doyle was contracted to move the building to the campus of the Lee County Alliance of the Arts. Siting the building to its current location on the Alliance property was completed and renovations started to bring the building up to City and County Building Codes. In 1984 the SWFLHS received its Articles of Incorporation with the following purpose: “The mission of the society is to discover, collect and preserve original and source documents, maps and photographs pertaining to the history of SW Florida. To bring together those interested in the history of this area; to promote and stimulate public interest and appreciation of the history of this area; and to further the preservation and knowledge of Southwest Florida's past.” http://www.swflhistoricalsociety.org/ View full record

    Welcome to Lee TX

We created this page to display county information for each state. Our team is engaged in building out the content to populate this page, sharing genealogy and history information. In the near future, we will be adding our library records which contain Books, Newspapers, Photos, Postcards, and other unique materials. Some of these are being presented to connect descendants with their family heirlooms (postcards, journals, Bibles). These library records will also be useful to those wanting assistance in finding an entry for their ancestors; we will perform "lookups" as time permits. If you have suggestions for content or basic input on the website, send us a message. We would be happy to incorporate your ideas. As we continue to populate this page, it should become more useful in your research so please check back soon! View full record
