Its charter was approved on January 30, 2016 with the purpose of providing a convenient central location for members in the Port Huron area and in Michigan’s thumb region. Though new, the chapter has already made its presence known with presentations of George Washington portraits to several schools and youth recognition awards. Being a new organization, membership in the Blue Water Chapter provides a unique opportunity to find and promote worthwhile service projects. Regular meetings are scheduled bimonthly on Tuesday evenings at the historic Dorsey House located about 10 miles northwest of Port Huron. SCCGS is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), all-volunteer group of genealogists, founded in 1977 and incorporated in 1978 which aspires to: *Preserve and perpetuate ancestral records for educational and historical purposes; *Encourage the study of family history and to teach the methods of genealogical research; *Promote genealogical publications; *Promote the preservation and safeguarding of genealogical data; and *Publish and circulate literature relative to the purposes and acquisitions of the Society.
