Gemeinden des Daskanats Westerwald is aligned in practice to Hesse-Nassau and though that convention was no longer recognized upon the growth of the Nazi party prior to WW2 it is still a part of the historical record and therefore important for research. Currently the Evangelical Church in Germany has this segment as part of Westerwald. The Westerwald includes the following primary church regions. Alpenrod, Alsbach, Altstadt, Bad Marienberg, Emmerichenhain, Dreifelden-Steinen, Freirachdorf, Gemünden, Hachenburg, Kirburg, Liebenscheid, Maxsain, Mantabaur, Neuhäusel, Neukirch, Neunk

  6. Excerpt from the book Old Town: A parish in a thousand years of history of Pastor Günter Heinrich formerly Altstadt. I have also collected data from other sources at the town hall in Hachenburg and village historical records. I hope to identify more areas and information as I continue to read the church books of Altstadt. The parish Altstadt, or "Old Town" seems to have its first listing in the Hachenburg District Court Records in 1316. In this record Altstadt and a few other surrounding villages received attention.
