Arbeitskreis donauschwäbischer Familienforscher

Recommended Posts

The AKdFF was founded in Sindelfingen, Germany, on 18. October 1975.

Its main areas of emphasis are:

  • The acquisition and development of resources for Danube-Swabian family research, promotion of family history publications, advising members, and the publication of family books as well as village kinship books.
  • Our areas of research are the former Danube Swabian settlement areas in Hungary, in the former Jugoslawia, and in western Romania (though excluding Transylvania).
  • Our common goal is to discover as much as possible about our ancestors and their origins. We belong to the survivor generation; many of us still speak the language and are familiar with  the villages of the former homeland. We supply the basic materials on which those of our descendants, who are interested in their origin, can build.

This is why each of us should try to find the dates of birth, marriage and death of our parents, grandparents and greatgrandparents. These dates should go back to at least 1895 (the year that civil registration began in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire). Before 1895, it is often possible to trace ancestors back even to the first entries in the church registers in the home community itself, using either on-hand microfilmed church material or that which has yet to be acquired. To date, we own approximately 2000 rolls of these church registers, primarily from Hungary.
